Warwick taxis face 10% fare rise amid Uber trade loss fears

Day flag £4.40→£4.85 from October; drivers cite fuel costs and claim up to 70% lost to apps.

Warwick District Council is set to lift maximum hackney-carriage initial fares by 10% from October, despite some drivers warning higher prices will push more work to Uber.

Coventry Telegraph reports the first 700 yards rising from £4.40 to £4.85 daytime and £6.65 to £7.30 overnight (five-plus passengers £8.85 to £9.75); distance and waiting rates stay as set in 2024. More than half of consulted drivers replied, nearly three-quarters backing a rise, citing fuel. Others said ranks sit empty while Uber takes trade — one estimated a 70% loss — and wanted a level playing field on app regulation. Cabinet approved the rise subject to objections; councillor Jim Sinnott said drivers can charge less if they choose.
