UK average diesel has reached an all-time high of 199.18p per litre, the RAC said on 28 September 2026.
That edges past the previous record of 199.09p in June 2022. The club says diesel is up about 59p a litre — just under 40% — since the US/Iran conflict escalated at the end of February, taking a typical 55-litre fill to almost £110, about £31 more than at the start of that period. Head of policy Simon Williams said the figure “spells pain” for drivers and for goods moved by diesel vans and lorries.
BBC coverage notes UK refineries produce enough petrol but not enough diesel, leaving the pump price exposed to imports and overseas events. For taxi and private hire fleets still on diesel, the record sits behind a wave of local fare-review pressure stories.
