Uber is recruiting paid voice-data collectors with regional British accents — including Cockney and Geordie — to help train AI systems that struggle with UK speech.
The Telegraph reports Uber AI Solutions (separate from ride-hail) wants speakers with Scottish, Welsh, Midlands, Northern Irish, Scouse, Geordie, Cockney or London accents for chatbot conversations. Academics have shown higher transcription error rates for Belfast, Liverpool, Newcastle and Bradford accents versus London. The drive sits in a wider gig market for AI training data.
