Rother eyes 10% hackney fare rise from 6 October

Cabinet 14 Sep: dog fee and extra passenger up; night tariff starts midnight instead of 11pm.

Rother District Council Cabinet is due to consider a 10% rise in maximum hackney fares from 6 October 2026.

Reporting says officers recommend approving the table after statutory consultation: extra passenger 30p to 40p, dog carriage 20p to 30p, and night tariff starting at midnight rather than 11pm, matching several Kent and East Sussex neighbours. Fares last rose in April 2023; inflation would put the £3.30 flag near £3.48. Eight of 103 owners replied — “not significant.” Of 154 hackneys at end-2025/26, 55 were electric or hybrid. Private hire and out-of-area hackneys are outside the Rother meter card.
