Rother cabinet to weigh 10% hackney fare rise on 14 September

Extra passenger and dog fees up; night rate from midnight — diesel volatility cited since 2023.

Rother District Council’s cabinet was due on 14 September to decide whether to vary the hackney fare card by about 10%.

The Argus / Local Democracy Reporting says fares last rose in April 2023 when diesel was about 161p/litre and has since swung between roughly 141p and 191p. Officers call a higher start fare, tighter distance/waiting increments, extra passenger 30p to 40p and dog fee 20p to 30p “reasonable,” with the night tariff starting at midnight instead of 11pm. Drivers may still charge less than the meter maximum.
