Rochford agrees taxi fare rise from October

Daytime flag £4 to £4.50; critics say short trips for vulnerable riders take the steepest percentage hit.

Rochford District Council has agreed taxi fare increases taking effect from October, with debate centred on how short journeys fare.

Yellow Advertiser / Echo reporting matches earlier coverage: Monday–Saturday daytime first 440 yards rising from £4 to £4.50 from 1 October — the first change since May 2024 — while later distance rates stay the same. Councillors warned pensioners and mobility-impaired residents on brief local trips face an immediate 12.5% jump, while longer rides barely move. Supporters argue drivers need help with fuel and operating costs after two years without a rise.
