LTDA and Freenow urge temporary London cab age-limit pause

With TX assembly ending Sept 2026 and TX6 not due until H2 2027, trade fears drivers left without vehicles.

The Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association and Freenow by Lyft are pressing TfL for a temporary suspension of London’s 12-year age limit on older diesel black cabs while LEVC’s next model is delayed.

Reporting says LEVC will finish current TX final assembly in September 2026, with the successor (referred to as TX6) not reaching the UK until H2 2027 — roughly a nine-month new-cab gap. LTDA general secretary Steve McNamara told TfL second-hand TX stock will not replace cabs falling off licence, risking driver unemployment. Freenow UKI’s Danny O’Gorman backed a temporary pause until new supply returns. Euro 3–5 diesels face 12 years; ZEC/Euro 6/LPG can run 15. Neither body seeks a permanent scrap of age limits.
