London taxis take WWII veterans to Dutch Market Garden walk

Taxi Charity: 10 veterans at 79th Wandeltocht — police motorcycle escort and Hague embassy breakfast.

Ten Second World War veterans travelled with the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans to the Netherlands for the 79th Airborne Walk commemorating Operation Market Garden.

Reporting says Dorothea Barron, Robbie Hall, Betty Withers, Paul Terry, Alf Cooley, Geoff Roberts, George Durrant, William Puckett, Ivan Staines and Arnold Walton crossed by overnight ferry from Harwich, breakfasted at the British Ambassador’s Residence in The Hague on 4 September, then attended the Wandeltocht finish at Oosterbeek on 5 September. Dutch police provided 15 motorcycle outriders for the London taxi convoy. Geoff Roberts served on Market Garden; Paul Terry fought for Nijmegen Bridge. Trustee Ian Parsons thanked Ambassador Chris Rampling for support; trips are donation-funded.
