GMB has demanded a “just transition” for about 300,000 private hire drivers before autonomous vehicles are rolled out in the UK.
Reporting quotes the union’s Uber Driver Noticeboard: neither TfL nor the Department for Transport has set out protections for drivers, families and communities, and overseas examples show AV markets ducking responsibility for livelihoods if left unchecked. GMB says AVs should not launch until a transition is agreed with driver members and deployment and safety concerns are addressed — whatever branding operators use.
