Former Cambridgeshire PC Joseph Passby has been found guilty of gross misconduct after crashing an unmarked police car into a taxi while over the drink-drive limit.
Hunts Post reports the 15 June on-duty collision on Trumpington Street, Cambridge; roadside breath was 110ug/100ml (station 113ug; evidential 88 and 81). He pleaded guilty at Luton Magistrates’ Court on 20 July and received a 12-month driving ban. An accelerated hearing on 25 August at Lysander House found breaches of discreditable conduct and fitness for duty; had he not already resigned he would have been dismissed and will go on the College of Policing barred list. Chief Constable Simon Megicks said he put the public and colleagues at risk.
