A Cardiff man who got into a taxi carrying a claw hammer has been jailed after the driver said he was terrified throughout the journey.
Wales Online reports Cameron Bennett, 22, was picked up in Ely early on 15 February with a roughly 30cm hammer. He asked for Castle Street, behaved erratically, moved from front to rear without a belt while the cab was moving, and was dropped near Queen Street and John Street at 5.10am so the driver could flag police. Officers found the hammer in the footwell. After release under investigation he was found with a cleaver on 23 May. He pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon and a bladed article; Recorder Robin Rouch jailed him for 314 days, noting no direct threat but real distress for the driver.
