Bury revokes a private hire licence after police intelligence

Licensing officers revoked the licence after Greater Manchester Police passed on intelligence about his conduct.

Bury Council's licensing service has immediately revoked a private hire driver's licence after Greater Manchester Police passed on intelligence about his conduct, according to the operational report for the Licensing and Safety Committee. Officers consulted the chair of the committee before the decision. The driver is not named, and the report does not describe the intelligence. Operational report

The report is from the Executive Director (Corporate Core) and is for information only. Members are asked to note it when the committee meets at 7pm on Thursday 5 November 2026, in Committee Rooms A and B at Bury Town Hall.

What the table records

The enforcement table covers drivers and vehicles from the last committee meeting in October up to 26 October 2026. It records two immediate revocations for serious allegations, with the licences revoked pending further investigation. No names are given, and the table does not record whether both cases are the police intelligence described in the immediate revocation section. A separate row records one vehicle licence revoked after a damaged vehicle.

Other action in October

One driver was immediately suspended, again after consultation with the chair, for no longer being registered on the DBS update service. Three vehicle licences were suspended over damaged vehicles and a missed interim inspection, and were to remain suspended until the vehicles complied. One suspension was later lifted, and the licence reinstated, after the vehicle met the requirements.

An alleged breach of licence conditions was referred to Greater Manchester Police. A stalking allegation was referred to the Licensing Panel. Two interviews are due over complaints of poor driving and stalking. Two further complaints about driver conduct are waiting on more evidence, requested from the complainants and from Uber. Another complaint about driver conduct ended with advice to the licence holder. An investigation into an allegation of poor driving found no breach.
