Brighton & Hove trade again pushes for higher cab fares

LDR: city slipped in national rankings; shorter clocking steps proposed — cabinet then public consultation.

Brighton and Hove taxi drivers are again pressing the council for a hackney fare rise as fuel, insurance and blue-book costs outpace the meter.

Brighton and Hove News (14 September LDR) repeats the trade case: the city fell from 14th to joint 38th nationally and drivers want shorter distance/time steps while keeping a £3 start, with night and late-night flag uplifts. Officers said even with rises the city would stay comparable with Lewes and Worthing and night premiums remain modest. Cabinet was due to consider recommending consultation. Private hire often follows commercially. Same story thread as the later 15 September piece already rewritten.
