Blaenau Gwent keeps hackney fares unchanged for now

Licensing committee rejects £4→£4.50 first-mile rise; only three of 118 drivers replied.

Blaenau Gwent’s General Licensing Committee has opted to keep existing hackney-carriage fares rather than push a proposed increase — a view due to go to the joint neighbourhoods director for a final decision.

DM News reports the 3 September special meeting followed a May consultation sent to 118 drivers that drew only three replies (two for a rise). The advertised plan would have lifted Tariff 1 from £4 to £4.50 for the first mile and set 23p per twelfth of a mile thereafter, with night and festive options discussed. Members left the current table in place amid weak response evidence; reporting suggested about 11 drivers (10% of the trade) could trigger a revisit. The borough’s licensed fleet is mostly hackney, with only three PHVs noted.
