Avon and Somerset Police’s taxi enforcement team has seized another suspected “ghost plate” from a private hire-linked vehicle.
PC Patrick Quinton posted a red Toyota Corolla with the rear plate obscured and urged drivers unsure about legality to get plates checked. Ghost plates are altered or filmed registrations designed to defeat ANPR while remaining readable to the eye — used to dodge enforcement, charges or tolls, or sometimes fitted unknowingly on a used car. Incorrect plates can attract fines up to £1,000. Seizure alone does not prove the driver’s motive in any single case.
