Ajax man dies after wheelchair-accessible taxi crash

65-year-old passenger fatally injured at Bayly and Clayton; Whitby scooter crash left 91-year-old stable.

A 65-year-old passenger died after a wheelchair-accessible taxi crashed in Ajax, Ontario, Durham Regional Police say.

Durham Post reports West Division responded about 4.35pm on 14 September near Bayly Street East and Clayton Road after the accessible cab collided with another vehicle; the passenger was taken to a Toronto-area hospital and pronounced dead. The Collision Investigation Unit is seeking witnesses. Separately that morning in Whitby, a 44-year-old Honda driver turning left at McKinney Drive and Taunton Road East struck a 91-year-old man on a mobility scooter in a crosswalk; the senior had serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was stable. That probe also continues.
