Spain’s first Level 4 robotaxi permit opens Madrid — Palma next?

WeRide, Uber and AVOMO get DGT go-ahead; 20 vehicles with specialist — commercial late 2026.

Spain has issued its first national permit for Level 4 autonomous passenger vehicles, starting with Madrid — and Majorca media ask whether Palma could follow.

Majorca Daily Bulletin / Uber say WeRide, Uber and AVOMO (Moove Cars) received Directorate-General for Traffic authorisation under the ES-AV framework for mapping, route validation and readiness tests. An initial 20 WeRide GXR vehicles with an onboard specialist are planned in high-demand Greater Madrid areas, with commercial service targeted for late 2026 subject to further milestones — WeRide–Uber’s first joint European deployment. Palma is not in the first phase; local coverage notes tourism demand could put the island on a later national rollout, with no date confirmed.
