Southend full council to decide consolidated taxi licensing policy

14 Sep key decision; 72-hour operator complaint reporting among proposed conditions.

Southend City Council is due to decide whether to adopt its first consolidated taxi licensing policy at full council on 14 September 2026.

DM News says Cabinet considered the key decision on 7 September after Licensing Committee recommended the single framework for drivers, vehicles and operators, developed with 2025 consultation and DfT guidance. An amendment would require operators to notify the authority within 72 hours of specified serious complaints — including involving out-of-town drivers on Southend trips — and keep records for at least 24 months. Final wording and adoption depend on the full council vote.
