A Gateshead Dean Taxis driver has been dismissed after allegedly making inappropriate remarks to a lone female passenger and later turning up at her home.
Chronicle Live reports the woman’s partner posted on social media that comments during the journey left her terrified; the driver then knocked unannounced. Dean Taxis said management ordered him not to visit or contact her, then sacked him on the spot when evidence showed he ignored that instruction — calling an unbooked visit a severe conduct breach. The firm escalated the case to Northumbria Police and Newcastle licensing. Councillor Owen Burbidge said the council suspended the driver’s licence pending the police investigation and would not comment further on the individual case.
