WeRide, Uber and AVOMO win Spain’s first Level 4 AV permit

DGT ES-AV nod for Madrid mapping and 20 supervised GXR vehicles; commercial aim late 2026.

WeRide, Uber and Spanish fleet firm AVOMO have received Spain’s first national permit for Level 4 autonomous passenger vehicles on public roads.

GlobeNewswire / Manila Times coverage says the Directorate-General for Traffic authorisation under the ES-AV framework lets the partners map, validate routes and run readiness tests ahead of a planned late-2026 commercial start in Greater Madrid. An initial 20 WeRide GXR vehicles will operate with an in-car specialist. The go-ahead is framed as WeRide’s first national GXR approval in the EU and Uber–WeRide’s first joint European AV deployment, with Madrid as a gateway toward wider Spanish and European roll-out.
