CBC News reported on Saturday 17 October 2026 that a Unicity taxi driver was robbed on Main Street, near the Exchange District in Winnipeg. Officers were with the driver just after 7am, the cab was parked on the road with its emergency lights on, and police had confirmed no injuries and no arrest.
The cab was marked as a Unicity taxi. The cab number was withheld. The company had been asked for comment, and the report does not include a reply. The driver is not named. The report does not say what was taken, and it does not describe a suspect.
The Winnipeg Police Service has published no release for this robbery. Releases on 16 and 18 October deal with other inquiries.
Separate cases
CBC placed the robbery among other recent attacks on taxi drivers in the city. Those inquiries are separate. TaxiFeed has already published the assault at Nairn Avenue and Watt Street on 3 October, when a driver was found unconscious just after 2am, and the handgun arrest of 11 October. A police release of 16 October concerns a different stabbing: a 16-year-old charged with assault with a weapon, and with failing to comply with a sentence, after a driver was stabbed in the 1600 block of Regent Avenue West on 25 September.
