UK man gets 5-day SDO for assaulting Singapore PHV driver, 66

Oruche Morgan Fidelis also given 100 hours’ community service; driver later died of natural causes.

A 22-year-old British man has been sentenced in Singapore to a five-day short detention order and 100 hours’ community service for assaulting a private-hire driver who later died.

Mothership reports Oruche Morgan Fidelis pleaded guilty to an amended assault charge after lunging at and pushing Low Ek Yong, 66, on 12 June 2024 when woken at his home, causing a skull fracture and coma. Low died in June 2025 of natural causes unrelated to the assault. The Attorney-General’s Chambers subsequently appealed the sentence as manifestly inadequate.
