Taxis can use Calderdale Royal's main entrance again

The main entrance in Halifax reopened at 10am on Monday 19 October. Taxis can drop off there again.

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust published on Monday 19 October 2026 that the main entrance at Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax reopened at 10am that morning. Drop-offs and taxis can use the entrance again.

The notice to staff read: "Thank you to colleagues for your patience, and support for our patients and visitors, during this temporary closure for essential work to take place. The work was to widen the entrance to the hospital, which will make it easier for people to get in and out of the hospital once the new multi-storey car park opens soon. Security bollards have also been installed during the work."

During the closure

The entrance had been closed since Monday 10 August. The trust had expected it to stay shut until early October. The trust's notice that day directed drop-offs, pick-ups and taxis to the Hospital Service Entrance on Dudwell Lane. A drop-off at the main entrance was still allowed for the Birth Centre. People on foot could also use the Women and Children's entrance, or the entrance from the A&E car park.

Dudwell Lane is the nearest entrance from the bus stops on Salterhebble Hill. The Women and Children's entrance is off Godfrey Road, and is the nearest to Outpatients and Maternity. The A&E car park entrance, also off Godfrey Road, is the nearest for CCU, Radiology and Macmillan.

The local report

Halifax Courier reported later on Monday that people on foot could use the entrance again, and that drop-offs and taxis would return on Tuesday 20 October. The trust's notice has those vehicles back from 10am the same morning.
