Spalding roadworks leave taxi crews in hour-plus jams

Cycle path, sinkhole and street closures stretch short trips; council cites short-term pain for long-term gain.

Spalding taxi workers say multiple roadworks have turned ordinary journeys into hour-long struggles.

Highways News quotes Spalding Smart Cabs passenger assistant Chris Pearson calling conditions “absolute carnage,” with a trip home that should take under an hour stretching to about 1 hour 25 minutes. Lincolnshire County Council points to a Pinchbeck Road cycle route (one-way system, due to finish 30 October), plus restrictions on Woolram Wygate, West Elloe Avenue and Winfrey Avenue, and sinkhole repairs on Enterprise Way since June. Traffic manager Ashley Behan apologised and framed it as “short-term pain for long-term gain.”
