Singapore PHV driver Low Ek Yong mourned after assault case

66-year-old died of natural causes a year after skull fracture; Brit passenger got SDO and community service.

Fellow drivers have remembered Singapore private-hire driver Low Ek Yong as soft-spoken and helpful after he died following a passenger assault that left him in a coma.

Mothership / Stomp report Low, 66, was pushed by passenger Oruche Morgan Fidelis after waking him at his Clementi home on 12 June 2024, fell, fractured his skull and never fully recovered; he died in June 2025 of natural causes (heart disease and bowel obstruction) unrelated to the assault. Fidelis, 22, was sentenced on 7 September 2026 to a five-day short detention order and 100 hours’ community service; AGC later called the sentence inadequate and appealed. Driving peers described Low as quiet but ready to help struggling colleagues.
