Singapore cabbie dies trapped as taxi rolls while unloading

Tee Chin Teong, 66, was caught between door and frame after his cab moved forward into a lorry near Jalan Besar.

A Singapore coroner’s inquiry has heard how taxi driver Tee Chin Teong, 66, died after his cab rolled forward while he was getting out to help passengers with luggage.

Stomp, Mothership and Goody Feed report the incident at about 12.50am on 24 February 2025 outside The Noble Hotel on Jalan Besar after a Changi Airport fare. A hotel worker saw Tee open the door with one foot on the road when the taxi moved, striking a parked lorry’s rear; his head and upper body were trapped between the open door and frame. A passenger shifted the gear from drive to park. Autopsy cited traumatic asphyxia and severe facial trauma. Investigators believed he may have forgotten to select park while hurrying to help; fatigue was not thought likely after only about an hour’s driving. He had 12 years as a cabbie and 42 years’ licence.
