Sefton PH driver facing court after Liverpool test purchase

Council officers approached 67 PHVs; one Sefton-licensed driver allegedly accepted an unbooked fare — 98%+ compliance.

A Sefton-licensed private hire driver is to be summoned after a Liverpool City Council test-purchase operation in the city centre.

Reporting says licensing officers approached 67 private hire vehicles over a weekend to see if drivers would take passengers without a prior booking. One allegedly agreed; 66 refused — more than 98% compliance. Private hire vehicles may only carry booked passengers via a licensed operator and cannot ply for hire like hackneys. The council said the Sefton-licensed driver would be summoned.
