Rother cabinet backs ~10% hackney fare rise for consult

Higher flag, shorter distance/wait steps, dog and extra-passenger extras; late rate shifts from 11pm to midnight.

Rother District Council’s cabinet has agreed to vary the hackney carriage fare card — about a 10% overall rise — after fuel and inflation pressure.

The Argus reports 14 September approval for a higher starting fare, money added after shorter distances and waiting times, extra passengers 30p→40p and dogs 20p→30p. The late-night premium would start at midnight instead of 11pm. Fares were last set in April 2023 with diesel around 161p/litre; officers cited swings between about 141p and 191p and said the package was “reasonable.” Public consultation follows earlier licensing endorsement; if unopposed, changes were aimed at October.
