Pontefract man jailed after strangling ex and ramming taxi

Luke Strickland, 27: four years two months; threatened female cabbie with tyre iron.

A Pontefract man who strangled his ex-partner and rammed a female taxi driver’s car has been jailed for four years and two months.

Wakefield Express reports Luke Strickland, 27, grabbed his former girlfriend by the throat for about 30 seconds on 13 December, then later left a voice note threatening to kill someone. On 13 January he struck a taxi on Estcourt Road / Marlpit Lane, waved what she believed was a tyre iron, followed her through Pontefract and later confronted her at a Bondgate petrol station. He admitted intentional strangulation, threatening behaviour, threatening with an offensive weapon and dangerous driving. Judge Simon Batiste activated a prior 16-month suspended term, imposed a ten-year restraining order for both women and banned him from driving for five years.
