Police seek witnesses after metal pole attack on Shelton taxi

A man swung a metal pole at a black Skoda taxi in Shelton; the front-seat passenger was assaulted. No arrests yet.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi passenger was assaulted during street disorder on Stoke Road in Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent.

The force said the incident was reported shortly after 2.50pm on Monday 28 September 2026. No arrests had been announced when the appeal went out the following day.

What police say happened

Officers say a group of men were fighting in the street when one man, wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and white trainers, swung a metal pole at a parked black Skoda taxi.

The male passenger in the front seat was assaulted. He then left the area in the taxi. The man with the pole got into an Audi and also left the scene.

Footage of the incident has been circulating on social media. Local reporting of that video says several men attacked the passenger inside the stationary taxi, and that a man filming was also struck on the head with the pole.

Staffordshire Police say they are carrying out enquiries and want to speak to anyone with information that could help.

Anyone who witnessed the disorder, saw the vehicles leave, or has CCTV, phone or dashcam footage should contact the force on 101 or report online, quoting incident number 525 of 28 September. Anonymous tip-offs can go to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
