A Phoenix Lyft driver left a waiting passenger to chase a hit-and-run driver he says struck a pedestrian three times, helping police make an arrest.
AZFamily / KPTV report Octave Gwin was waiting around 1am near 27th Avenue and Northern Avenue when a car ran a red light, hit a man crossing, then returned and struck him again. Gwin pursued for miles, later following damage to a sign and tree after briefly losing the car. Phoenix Police used a SWAT team to take a suspect into custody and said impairment was likely; the victim had life-threatening injuries. Gwin later said pursuits are dangerous. Lyft praised the intent but urged reporting to police rather than chasing.
