NYC cabbie Jagjit Singh found dead — third in three months

West Village vigil after 53-year-old parked post-drop; union links long hours and pay stress to on-job deaths.

New York taxi driver Jagjit Singh, 53, was found dead in his yellow cab in Manhattan’s West Village — the third cabbie discovered lifeless in a vehicle in three months, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance says.

AmNY / NY1 report he dropped passengers near Seventh Avenue and Charles Street around 5–5.30pm on 11 September; friends traced the medallion locator hours later and found him unresponsive, pronounced dead at the scene. Cause was still with the medical examiner, with heart-attack speculation. He leaves a wife and twin children. Earlier summer deaths included Khalifa Siwa and Richard Coulibaly (natural causes reported). The union and TLC commissioner Midori Valdivia pressed for better pay, healthcare and decompression time amid affordability pressure.
