A taxi driver has been given a £300 fixed penalty notice after driving a woman to Bowers Avenue in Norwich, where rubbish was left in the street.
The Eastern Daily Press says CCTV showed the journey. The woman, who is from Norwich, had hired him. She and another man unloaded the rubbish. She is due before Norwich Magistrates’ Court. The paper does not give a hearing date, and it does not name the driver, the firm, or the day it happened.
The notice was issued because he did not produce a valid waste carrier licence. On the council’s table, failing to produce authority to transport waste is £180 if paid within 10 days and £300 if paid within 14 days. Paying the notice ends the matter. The paper does not say he has been prosecuted.
The wider crackdown
The paper says her court case will be the third recent fly-tipping prosecution built on CCTV. In the two before it, the offenders were ordered to pay £2,550 between them. It says fly-tipping fines and penalties in the city this year have passed £4,500. Those figures are the paper’s.
Councillor Toby Bolton, cabinet member for a sustainable city, said a dedicated enforcement team this year has led to a 200 per cent rise in fixed penalty notices. He asked residents who see fly-tipping to report it.
Norwich put a fly-tipping camera on Bowers Avenue in August 2024, with others at Normandie Tower, Springbank, Douro Place, Marlpit Lane and Heathgate. The paper does not say which camera recorded this journey.
