North Lanarkshire consults on 7% taxi distance fare rise

Independent review cites 10%+ cost growth; waiting time would rise from £12 to £15 an hour.

North Lanarkshire taxi fares could rise after an independent cost review recommended higher distance rates and waiting charges.

Private Hire and Taxi Monthly reports Licensed Vehicle Surveys and Assessments found driver expenses up by more than 10% since the last review.

What is proposed

Recommendations include a 7% increase in distance-based fares and raising waiting time from £12 to £15 per hour. Council data cited in the report says North Lanarkshire currently has Scotland’s lowest waiting-time rate, so the new figure would still sit below neighbouring areas.

The council is running a public consultation into October, seeking views from licence holders, operators and industry representatives before any decision.
