Noida police hold a cab after two youths cling to the bonnet

Police have the Sector 18 cab and a rash-driving case after a video showed two youths on the bonnet.

NewsX reported on Sunday 18 October 2026 that a video from Sector 18 in Noida showed a cab moving off with two youths clinging to the bonnet after a dispute. The footage was circulating on social media. The report placed the scene in the area covered by Sector 20 police station. On that first account, the two narrowly escaped injury. The sequence that put them on the bonnet had not been checked independently, and the report had no named driver, no complaint and no confirmed police action.

The case

The Times of India reported later the same day that Noida police had registered a first information report, the document that opens a criminal investigation in India, against an unknown person. Additional deputy commissioner Abhay Kumar told the paper the video had come from social media and showed a cab being driven negligently on a road in Sector 18, with two youths hanging from the bonnet. An FIR was registered at once under section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which he described as rash driving, at Sector 20 police station. The car was taken into police custody. Teams were looking for the driver, who was absconding.

A senior officer, in the same report, identified the owner as Sawan Kumar, of Shalimar Garden in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad. Officers had not established whether Kumar or someone else was at the wheel.

What is still open

The initial check found one traffic fine of 500 rupees, for a road-marking violation in Gurgaon on 27 July 2026. Police have not named the two youths. The officer's account does not describe the dispute, and it records no injury, no arrest and no hearing date. The case stands against an unknown person.
