NI taxi drivers rise for fifth quarter to 7,586

DVA figures to end-June 2026 show another driver increase; the fleet hit 7,440 vehicles — highest since September 2021.

Northern Ireland’s licensed taxi driver total rose for a fifth consecutive quarter to 7,586 at the end of June 2026, according to Driver and Vehicle Agency statistics published 25 September.

DM News notes the stock has still “more than halved” from 15,802 in 2013/14. Licensed taxi vehicles reached 7,440 — up 169 (2.3%) on June 2025 and the highest since September 2021. Separately, driver licences issued in 2025/26 fell to 1,574 from 2,038 the year before; that counts annual activity, not licences in force.

The numbers come from the DfI Driver, Vehicle, Operator and Enforcement Statistics for April–June 2026 (2026/27 Q1).
