Malta taxi driver convicted on appeal over Cospicua crash

Clint Farrugia hit Kevin Brincat in 2018; appeal fines 2329 euros and six-month ban after acquittal overturned.

A Malta taxi driver has been convicted on appeal of negligent driving after hitting a pedestrian in Cospicua — reversing an earlier acquittal.

Times of Malta / TVM News report Judge Consuelo Scerri Herrera found Clint Farrugia criminally responsible for striking Kevin Brincat in Triq San Pawl on 16 November 2018, causing serious head and face injuries. Magistrates had acquitted him in September 2025 amid conflicting lighting/sign evidence; the prosecution appealed. Technical evidence said the road was wide and straight, speed about 26–34km/h and brakes sound. The court said Brincat was not on a crossing, which could mitigate sentence, but Farrugia still lacked sufficient attention. Sentence: €2,329.37 fine, six-month driving ban and €3,426.85 expert costs.
