London cabbies caught between pick-ups and PCN minefield

App pins vs zigzags; £60 private charge for helping elderly passenger — LTDA and MP raise alarm.

London taxi drivers say passenger duties and stopping rules increasingly clash — with PCNs and private parking charges for doing the job.

trade reporting Perry Richardson describes a Brompton Road app booking where zigzags and a no-U-turn left no clean kerb; waiting to contact a group opposite Boots still drew a PCN now under challenge. Separately Gary Taylor received a £60 private charge after helping an elderly passenger with a cane at Brentford Lock; Parking Collection Services rejected his appeal, saying taxi status is no exemption. MP Ruth Cadbury and LTDA’s Steve McNamara criticised enforcement that risks drivers refusing door-to-door drops. Highway boarding exemptions do not always apply on private land; accessibility duties still expect reasonable assistance.
