London black-cab drivers and fleet owners say they cannot get enough new LEVC taxis as older vehicles hit TfL’s 12-year age limit — putting jobs at risk.
MyLondon reports a large fleet proprietor ordered dozens of vehicles and received only a fraction, with little communication and parts delays of months. Driver Danny Sullivan, whose cab expires in May 2027, says he has been told to wait and fears a crash or breakdown could end his career; trade figures cite about 1,500 cabs leaving the road yearly. LEVC says it has adjusted output for a next-generation cab while TX assembly continues at Ansty. TfL says if supply were a problem it would act and that zero-emission taxis remain available via lease or used sales. Allied Vehicles’ Ford Maxicab is licensed elsewhere in the UK but not London, citing turning-circle rules.
