Liverpool and TyreSafe push tyre safety kit for taxi/PHV fleets

After Sefton PHVs suspended with cords showing — free ACT checks and part-worn buying advice.

Liverpool City Council is working with charity TyreSafe on free tyre-safety resources for taxi and private hire drivers after vehicles were suspended with illegally worn tyres.

Liverpool Express reports Sefton-licensed PHVs pulled after officers found cords exposed; a joint tunnel-police operation found another with two illegal tyres. TyreSafe’s materials cover daily ACT checks (air, condition, tread), legal tread depth, damage signs and buying compliant part-worn tyres (inspected, pressure-tested, marked, ≥2mm tread). Councillor Harry Doyle and TyreSafe chair Stuart Lovatt said education must sit alongside enforcement for high-mileage licensed fleets. Resources are free at tyresafe.org.
