Kazakhstan aims for commercial driverless taxis in 2027

Pilots run in Astana, Almaty and Kosshy; Yandex’s Almaty test car must log thousands of kilometres first.

Kazakhstan plans to start commercial driverless taxi rides in 2027 after pilots in three cities.

At a 22 September 2026 government meeting, AI and Digital Development minister Zhaslan Madiyev said commercial service was due “next year,” with pilots in Astana, Almaty and Kosshy. Yandex Qazaqstan CEO Timur Shalekenov said the first driverless vehicle is testing in Almaty, mapping roads, and needs several thousand kilometres before passenger rides. Authorities are writing regulations in parallel.
