Italian taxis and NCC seek duty-free fuel and tax credit

Nine associations asked Meloni’s government for commercial fuel access and a March–October 2026 fuel-price tax credit.

Italian taxi and private-hire (NCC) associations have jointly asked the government for relief from soaring pump prices.

Il Sole 24 Ore reports a letter to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the economy and transport ministers, signed by nine bodies representing about 80% of operators. They want unrestricted access to excise-relieved “commercial fuel” and a tax credit for non-scheduled car passenger services covering March–October 2026 fuel rises versus February. itTaxi president Loreno Bittarelli also urged mayors, including Rome’s Roberto Gualtieri, to allow a small temporary per-journey surcharge and warned of extreme difficulty and possible strike action if ignored. Existing diesel tax-credit platforms for heavy freight/bus operators do not cover car taxis/NCC.
