Hong Kong ‘celebrity’ cabbie jailed six weeks for dangerous driving

31-year-old with 73,000 social followers got a year licence ban and a driving improvement course after a Sai Kung sting.

A 31-year-old New Territories taxi driver with a large social media following has been sentenced to six weeks in prison for dangerous driving.

Hong Kong Buzz reports he was convicted and sentenced at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts, with a one-year driving ban and a self-funded driving improvement course. East Kowloon officers posing as passengers boarded his taxi in Sai Kung Country Park on 1 May, gathering evidence of speeds far above the limit and weaving in busy park traffic before arresting him. Police said he had more than 73,000 followers and noted a wider Golden Week crackdown that saw 10 other drivers convicted for overcharging.
