Four passengers brought a Hong Kong taxi to a halt after the driver collapsed at the wheel on a busy dual carriageway.
The incident was at about noon on 28 September 2026 on Ching Cheung Road in Cheung Sha Wan, near Nob Hill, heading toward Kwun Tong. Police and local outlets say the 66-year-old driver, surnamed Lee, lost consciousness, leaving the cab drifting for about half a minute.
Dashcam footage shared online shows the driver slumped and unresponsive. Passengers shouted and patted his face and arms, then the front-seat passenger took the steering wheel while a rear passenger pulled the handbrake. The taxi scraped a roadside barrier and stopped with a burst front-right tyre. None of the four passengers was injured; police later helped them into another cab.
Paramedics took the driver to Caritas Medical Centre. As of later reports he remained in critical condition. A passenger called police at 12.17pm saying the driver had collapsed near the substation outside Lai Chi Kok Hospital area on Ching Cheung Road.
The Standard, Dimsum Daily, SCMP and local Chinese coverage all match on location, passenger count, the half-minute uncontrolled run, and the barrier stop.
