Heathrow tout Khalid Sood banned from driving for six months

Aviation police say Khalid Sood was found guilty of touting at Heathrow and banned from driving for six months.

Khalid Sood, named by Met aviation officers as a known taxi tout at Heathrow, has been found guilty and banned from driving for six months.

What police have said

Aviation Policing at Heathrow said Sood frequented the airport and was found guilty of touting, a driving offence and other offences. The Taxi Point report of that post is the only public account. It does not name the court, the hearing date, the precise charges, or any fine.

What touting is

Soliciting people in a public place to hire a vehicle is an offence under section 167 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, unless a statutory exception applies. On summary conviction the maximum is a level 4 fine, currently £2,500. That section is not aimed at a licensed taxi plying for hire on a rank.

The six-month driving ban is part of the outcome police described. They have not said which of the offences carried the disqualification.

For a passenger, a tout in a terminal is outside the licensed rank and the booked private-hire system. For a driver on the Heathrow rank, it is someone taking the fare before the passenger reaches a licensed cab.
