Fife cabbie wants licensing committee sacked over Uber row

Kevin Hopgood of Coastal Cabs said throwing out 431 objections was not democracy after Uber’s Rosyth approval.

A Fife taxi operator has called for the Regulation and Licensing Committee to be dismissed after 431 objections to Uber’s Rosyth booking-office licence were ruled invalid.

Kevin Hopgood, 69, of Coastal Cabs in Kirkcaldy, told the Dunfermline Press the hearing was “not democracy” and that objectors should have been allowed to resubmit and the case put on hold. Anwar Ul Haq of Ash Cabs, Dunfermline, called the outcome a let-down after the council had acknowledged objections by email. The committee disregarded the submissions after Uber’s solicitor said they lacked grounds, names/addresses and signatures; the application then passed unopposed. The council has since apologised and promised a process review.
