An empty Waymo robotaxi briefly blocked an Austin Fire Department truck answering a hotel alarm on 14 September 2026.
Hotel guest David Munoz filmed the driveway standoff: the AV edged forward while the fire engine tried to enter, before the Waymo eventually backed up. The alarm was false and no one was hurt. Waymo told Storyful / NY Post the vehicle had finished a drop-off, paused, then reversed to clear the path, and said it works with public-safety partners.
