Cumberland Council’s Executive is due to consider advertising a common maximum £7 fare for a two-mile hackney-carriage journey across the whole district.
DM News says the 16 September 2026 item would replace separate Allerdale, Carlisle and Copeland tariffs inherited at local-government reorganisation. Trade requested the change amid fuel and cost pressure. Compared with current tables the two-mile figure would rise by £1 in Allerdale and 80p in Copeland, with Carlisle unchanged. Approval would only start statutory advertisement; objections could send it back. Private-hire fares are outside the hackney tariff, so the £7 figure would not set PHV prices.
