Corby taxi drivers say North Northamptonshire’s unitary knowledge test is locking experienced local cabbies out of renewals.
Northants Telegraph reports the Hackney Carriage Trade Alliance met Cllr Kirk Harrison at the Corby Cube with Cllrs Pengelly and Colquhoun. Drivers must now know routes across Corby, Wellingborough, Kettering and Rushden even if they work one town. Issues included a three-failure safeguard, black-vehicle rules, fees and an unresolved renewal case needing a 10-day reply. Neil Rielly called the meeting constructive if action follows; Ian Robb said fewer passers mean fewer public taxis. Harrison said the 2025 harmonised policy is under review with wider trade meetings ahead.
