BC RCMP impound Squamish taxi after 133 km/h on Sea to Sky

65-year-old fined $368; seven-day seize — fare had just lost own car to same speeding crackdown.

A Squamish taxi was among 21 vehicles RCMP impounded for excessive speed on British Columbia’s Sea to Sky Highway over Labour Day weekend — while carrying a passenger whose own car had just been seized for the same offence.

Vancouver Sun reports a motorcycle officer clocked a white Toyota Corolla taxi at 133 km/h in an 80 zone near Porteau Cove. The 65-year-old driver was fined $368, lost the work vehicle for seven days and faces high-risk insurance costs pushing the hit above $2,000. Sgt Michael McLaughlin said professional drivers do not get a free pass and passengers should speak up if a cab or rideshare speeds.
